Frank Ocean is a big name in the pop music industry. Frank Ocean has been trending for a very long while and still is now. On TikTok, Instagram, or other social media you might hear his name being brought up more recently. But Frank Ocean isn’t new to the industry.
Christopher Edwin Breaux or as we know him as “Frank Ocean”, released his first mixtape named “Nostalgia, ULTRA” on February 16, 2011. During that year of 2011, Frank gained popularity quickly and got the attention of Kanye West and Jay-Z. During Frank’s late teens, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue music. He then soon started writing songs for other artists such as Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Brandy, and John Legend.
Frank Ocean continued to release Channel Orange in 2012, Endless in 2016, and Blonde in 2016. He also released many singles including Pyramids, Thinkin Bout You, and Novacane. These singles were big hits with over 600,000,00 streams for just Novacane. He continued to make songs with other artists featuring in them such as Tyler The Creator, Kanye, Jay- Z, Earl Sweatshirt, and more.
Out of all his albums, the most popular, with 6,091,625,018 streams, is Blonde. The album Blonde carries themes of heartbreak, coming of age, and falling of love. In life, everyone goes through growing up and comes of age. We also go through stages of falling in love and getting our hearts broken. Especially in this generation the meaning of love to younger people have changed, and heartbreaks are common and are a topic that usually brings people together. Frank Ocean’s songs appeal to our generation even though times have changed since 2016. His songs in the Blonde album showcase its themes in a very creative and artistic way.
I am a Frank Ocean fan myself and my honest review on the album is that it is actually amazing. A popular thing found in his albums is that in a song the vibe changes from beginning to end. In the album an example of this is the song “Nights”. I also like how the songs in Blonde are catchy and talk about life experiences such as relationships literally and metaphorically. My favorite song from the album is” Ivy”. The song flows so nicely and it makes you want to actually shout the lyrics. Even if you can’t relate to the lyrics it is still so soul-catching. My favorite part from “Ivy” has to be the chorus. The chorus is…
“ I thought that I was dreamin’ when you said you love me
The start of nothin’
I had no chance to prepare, I couldn’t see you comin’
The start of nothin’
Ooh, I could hate you now
It’s quite alright to hate me now
When we both know that deep down
The feeling still deep down is good “
Overall, the album consists of many other songs that are very good. I would recommend everyone to listen to a bit of his music. I think that is when they will understand why everyone loves Frank Ocean.
