Last year the girls made history by being the first Worcester Public Schools girl’s basketball team to play the state championship. Now, for the second year in a row, the girl’s basketball team made it to the Division II state finals. The highly anticipated rematch between South and Medfield occurred this past Saturday, March 15th at Umass Lowell’s Tsoungus Arena.
Unfortunately, Medfiled triumphed with a final score of 62-20. However, this loss does not come without an immense amount of pride for the girls. This season was electric, with the Colonels dominating the competition and defeating teams across the state such as Burlington, Pembroke, Walpole, and Whitman-Hanson.

During the game the girls played hard and brought their all, beginning the game with an energized demeanor and keeping it throughout the entire game, even when they began to falter. The loss came as a shock and a disappointment to all of South, as the hopes were running high for them this year.
In situations such as this, we must always remember to take the positive with the negative. While the Colonels lost for the second year in a row, they also triumphed and paved the way to an excellent finish at the state championship. This display of ferocity and skill will continue to dominate the scene, and—fingers crossed—bring the team to victory next season. Third time’s the charm, after all!
