If you haven’t heard, the Physics classes are going to Six Flags this year! Each year, usually around the end of May, all of the Physics classes – college, honors, and AP – get the opportunity to go to the amusement park for the day for a fee of around $40.
According to Mr. Jones, “This annual trip has been happening for 10-15 years, and I look forward to it every year.” Previously, there had been a specific project to go with this field trip, but now most of the content about roller coasters (momentum, energy) is taught earlier in the year, and builds up into this big trip. He said that all of the students that go on this trip enjoy it, and it is a memorable moment of their high school experience.
He also says this trip also helps the Physics classes build a better reputation amongst other science courses. Mr. Jones shares that lots of students don’t end up taking Physics, mainly because it is “too hard”. He thinks that Physics should be more diverse, regardless of a student’s background. This field trip is hoped to help show that Physics can be fun, and not something that is boring and stigmatized.
Recently the trip has been rescheduled for Friday, June 7th, due to rain. If you are in Physics, and you don’t have tickets yet, don’t worry, there are still a few left! Ask your Physics teacher for more information!
