Will Jordan, a school resource officer with the Rocky Hill Police Department in Rocky Hill, Connecticut has recently gone viral for an interesting response on the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune”. When answering a phrase on the show, his response was “Treat yourself a round of sausage”, when in fact, the true answer was “Give yourself a round of applause”. Additionally, Will happens to be the brother-in-law of South High’s very own Mr. Grady, who connected us with Will.
Wheel of Fortune has been airing since 1975, and has become a staple in many homes, including Will’s. He says that his son was the one to sign him up for the show. He has been watching with his family for years, and even after telling him it was “nearly impossible” to get on the show – one million people apply a year and only six hundred people get on – his son still applied for him, and after five months and background check, Will was on the show!
For anyone who may not know, Wheel of Fortune is “basically hangman”. After spinning a wheel determining their dollar value, contestants guess a consonant in a certain phrase and then the money they win is the value they spun times the number of times that consonant appears in the phrase.
When asked about how he made his “famous guess”, Will said this: “My thought process was that I came all the way to California, and that I wasn’t going to win anything as the two other contestants were really good. I said to myself to “swing for the fences” as I would rather strike out going for it then look at strike three and go home empty handed. The problem is the game moves really quick (22 minutes of air time) so you can easily get caught up in the pressure and the time crunch. Little did I know that this mindset would contribute to my viral incorrect, but hilarious guess.”
Will has reached over 30 million views on TikTok and Barstool Sports, along with three late night shows, and has been on five radio shows and two national podcasts. His focus when speaking with these media outlets is shining the light on veterans and food banks. “Once the spotlight is off me I can feel good raising national awareness for vets and food banks including my own local food bank, which is approaching $25,000 in donations in 10 days, work I and others can be proud of.”
Will says this “was one, if not the single best experiences of my life”. He was able to bring his son and one of his daughters with him, and they were able to do fun activities and visit cool places in Hollywood like celebrity house hunting, going to Venice Beach, seeing the Hollywood sign, spending a day at Universal Studios, and saw the Back to the Future set, which were movies that both him and his kids grew up on.
