The LGBTQ club at South has been active for at least 13 years and is growing strong. The LGBTQ+ club is run by Mx. K. They meet after school at 3:00 PM on Tuesdays. Ultimately, their main goal is to have a safe space for LGBTQ+ students to interact.
This is the second year the LGBTQ club has an advisory period as well. They hang out and have discussions weekly on Thursdays in addition to their monthly meetings and they are still open if people want to sign up for their advisory. During those monthly meetings, they bring snacks, play games, and sometimes have educational/ trivia periods.
This February 11th, they will welcome students to come and hear Miss. Wynja who is coming to promote computer science interests among minority students.
Additionally, in June they have a big pride spirit week where they make tie-dye for the members. During this week, they have gender-bend days where they play around with the clothes they wear, and the rest of the week is dependent on the suggestions and interests of the club. Past LGBTQ+ spirit days include “Rep Your Flag Day” and “Queer Icon Day”!
