Everyone talks about the feeling of Christmas Day, but never really about Christmas Eve. People tend to describe Christmas Day as more exciting than Christmas Eve, which isn’t wrong, but in its own way Christmas Eve brings about an exciting, nostalgic feeling that Christmas day doesn’t really bring. The feeling that Christmas Eve brings is more exciting than Christmas Day.

Don’t get me wrong Christmas day is surreal, you wake up excited in your Christmas pj’s, totally disregarding a shower and running straight to the Christmas tree. The colorful tree is surrounded by many gifts, different sizes and colors, that just make you beam with excitement. As a kid, right before you sit down, you make sure to check if Santa had his cookies and milk. A warm feeling spreads throughout your heart when you realize there’s an empty glass and cookie crumbs on the plate. You sit down right beside the tree and a sudden rush of happiness flows throughout your body when your mom says, “Now open your presents!” You quickly spot your name on different boxes and rip them apart revealing all the gifts you wrote down on your list. After that you go on about your day, eating breakfast, playing with your gifts, trying on your gifts, and dressing up to go out with your family. The feeling is amazing and the day is packed with various activities, but it doesn’t feel like Christmas Eve.
☃️
Christmas Eve, the day right before Christmas. The day you buy last minute gifts for friends and family, for some the day they put up their Christmas tree and decorate it with lights and ornaments. You put on Christmas music and bake cookies to set the Christmas mood. As the evening rolls around you can’t seem to contain your excitement because you know what awaits you the next day. Gifts under the tree, Christmas breakfast, and family trips. You sing along to famous Christmas songs such as All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey, O’ Holy Night, and This Christmas, etc. As a kid you put some of the cookies you just baked onto a plate, and pour a glass of milk setting it down on the table, hoping that it’ll be gone in the morning. When it’s finally nighttime, the Christmas tree illuminates the whole house in white, red , green, and blue, along with glittery shiny ornaments. A universal experience usually occurs at night: You wake up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water while everyone else is asleep, and as you go back to your room, you catch a glimpse of the tree, stopping to stare at it in awe. It takes a while before you’re able to go to sleep because you can’t stop thinking about how your family’s going to react when you give them gifts they were least expecting.
Christmas Eve has essentially become more exciting than Christmas. I love Christmas and everything that happens that day, but once you wake up, open your gifts, and do what you have to do, the day is basically over. There’s not much more to look forward to, apart from New Years of course. But when it’s Christmas Eve, you have something to look forward to, Christmas!
