Only a junior in high school, 16 year old Christine Ferguson has decided to take on an important role as Junior Class Treasurer. This task was not an easy one, but she manages to handle her position, school work, and personal life all at the same time. At least once a week Christine walks into school with her hands full of snacks to raise money for the junior class. These snacks are sold every Tuesday and Friday and the money raised is used to host events. Christine’s job is not just to restock, but it is to also budget and keep track of the money raised.
When it came to endorsing Christine, creative writing teacher James Sadowsky did not hesitate. According to him, Christine was “a good fit for a leadership position.” In his classroom, Christine’s personality shined. Whether it was talking out to answer questions or even coming into class and pretending to be the teacher, her kindness, enthusiasm, upstanding behavior, engagement, and work ethic were seen by Mr. Sadowsky at the beginning of the semester. If Christine were to run for senior class treasurer in the next school year, Mr. Sadowsky would endorse her again because she “shows passion about the position.”
Being a leader comes with a lot of responsibilities. One of those is being able to work with those around you. Christine demonstrates this wherever she goes. She is either waving to someone in the hallway or making new friends. These are the people Christine considers her support system. This year Christine has made a few new friends, including Mary. Mary considers Christine to be “amazing to have as a friend.” Christine’s way of bonding with people has gotten many people to believe in her ability as treasurer.
Although Christine spends a lot of her time fundraising for the junior class, she still does a lot outside of it. These include being chorus vice president, participating in various choirs and singing groups, joining a lot of clubs, writing music, singing, running a music account on instagram, and being an honor roll student. Christine’s passion for being a leader is not just for the junior class, but it follows her wherever she goes. If Christine is not budgeting for the junior class, she is either teaching music or leading something else. With Christine, not just the money scene is pristine, but everything around her just seems to be clean.
