As you may have seen in the Colonel Weekly, we are excited to start the new Letter to the Editor Column!
If you are interesting in submitting a Letter to the Editor, here are some tips to get you started:
- Remember, this should be in a letter format. Start with a greeting! (example: “To the Editor,”) If you know the name of the editor, you can use it, however that is not necessary.
- To properly get your word out you need to grab the reader’s attention, so start with a good hook, just like an essay.
- After your hook, get right on topic. What are you writing about, and why is it important?
- Provide/cite evidence (if necessary!)
- State your opinion. What do you think should be done about the issue you are covering?
- Again, this is in letter format, so professionally sign your name at the end. (Again, anonymous submissions are allowed.)
- Proofread! Our editors will not actually edit your letter, so please correct any spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues before submitting. Make sure you’re happy with what you write!
If you think you’re ready to write, you can submit it here online or physically to Ms. Ledoux in room A147.
