Community is always at the heart of South’s values, and there’s no better way to come together than a food drive!
This is why The Colonel Chronicle would like to bring some special attention to the Food Drive that Mrs. Burchill’s 365Z club has taken the liberty of conducting!
This schoolwide Food Drive was started on November 1st in order to restock the school pantry of its most popular foods, as well as to take action against the SNAP benefits currently being on hold. It’s truly a wholehearted movement to support everyone in South High School.
We all know that this project takes a team effort, and that it could not be done without help. With the wonderful help of Maria Dottin, the Food Drive’s wraparound coordinator, everyone is getting involved! The drive has support from NHS, Good Works Club, and Project 351! Mrs. Burchill sends her most sincere thank you’s for your support, and of all those who’ve successfully helped lift up our community!
Of course, there are more reasons to donate than simply being a good community member. The 365Z club has also started The Gobble Wobble competition alongside the Food Drive! For every food item that is donated to the pantry, students can pick a teacher, who volunteered for the competition, and add a feather to their picture that’s on the display in the 1st floor hallway. Whichever teacher has the most feathers when the competition wraps up will have to wear an inflatable turkey costume on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving!

You can see the scoreboard for yourself in the 365Z kindness corner outside of A109. Each grade has their own designated non-perishable foods that they should bring in. So, if you have a teacher that you wanna see in some gobbler garb, check the list beside the scoreboard and donate what boxes or cans you can before the drive wraps up before the start of Thanksgiving Break.
Though donations are still welcome at any time of the year, there’s no better way to join in the holiday spirit than to give back to your community, so make sure to give what you can or spread the word to those in need!
