I’m Jadiel: A six-foot tall freshman athlete here at South. When I saw Javian Castro playing sports this season; I wanted to know how his first year of basketball went. Below is a set of questions I asked him:
1. I saw you playing basketball this season. How was your first year of basketball?
My first high school season was decent but I know I definitely could’ve done better. I’ll just need to put the extra work in for next year.
2. That’s amazing to hear. I know you are a freshman here at South. How is your first year in high school going?
My first year in high school wasn’t what I expected. I also didn’t expect to be in honors classes which made things a little more difficult for me.
3. It looks like you’ve got a lot of things to focus on. What are some things that motivate you lately?
What really gives me my drive is my family. I love my family more than anything, I love them to death. But when I started to lose family, that’s when it hit me. As a kid, it made me realize that nothing lasts forever. I knew that anything could happen at any point in time. I love basketball almost as much as I love my family, they both play a big part in my life. I want to make it into the NBA no matter what it takes.
4. Speaking of motivation, I’ve seen your work off the court in our class. I’ve noticed you’ve struggled in class before; what is the reason for that?
That’s a big struggle on my end because I lack academic motivation. I often sleep, get distracted, or am on my phone too much. That’s another thing that I gotta work on.
5. What are your plans after you graduate?
After I graduate, I’d love to get into a good college not just academically, but for basketball as well. That means that if basketball doesn’t work for my future, then I have other things to turn to.
6. What are your favorite hobbies?
I don’t really have hobbies outside of basketball. It’s not basketball then it would be playing basketball related video games like NBA 2K. And if not that then I either go to the gym or hang out with my friends.
7. What are some of your goals in life?
My only big goal right now is to make it professionally in basketball. But even at a young age I knew that wasn’t going to be easy. Of course I look into other things. If not basketball, then I would love to be a diesel technician. I loved cars as a kid and still do to this day. I am taking diesel classes right now in my high school. That’s definitely gonna be a big part of my life.
8.What is your secret talent that nobody knows?
Only people that are really close to me know that I can sing. It’s not much but I can hit a note here and there.
Ouu we got a singer! Well thank you Javian for participating in my interview and I wish you the best of luck.
